If you don’t know what diversion is, you’re not alone. Nine out of ten consumers do not know what diversion is, but it can be harmful to you. Diversion is when professional products, such as Redken, Matrix, Biolage and Pureology are sold in “unauthorized” places. All genuine professional products are sold exclusively in authorized salons or spas such as Ultimate Image Salon in Exton, PA. See picture below “Guaranteed only when sold in salons“.
Perhaps you have come across a couple bottles in your local drugstore, supermarket or even online. These professional products that you find outside of a salon or spa are “diverted”. Personally, I’ve seen Pureology and Redken products in our local grocery store that have been discontinued for 5 years! Who knows what’s in that bottle…
Why is diversion bad?
Diverted products can be unsafe to use, counterfeit and have old and expired or diluted formulas. Professional product companies cannot guarantee that what you purchase outside a salon or spa is an authentic product of theirs.
Am I in danger?
Potentially. It may put your health and hair at risk. Counterfeit, expired or contaminated formulas can cause infection and irritation.
Who is responsible for diverting products?
Unauthorized distributors, salons or their employees could be to blame for diversion. Other dishonest individuals who see profit in piracy are also responsible.
When you see products in authorized places, go on their company’s website and there will be an email or a number to call to report these places, to help stop diversion. All you need is the city, state and name of the location you saw the products. Tell your friends about the danger of these products.
