Mascara is the number one cosmetic that women usually will not leave the house without because it helps to enhance eyes by darkening, thickening and providing temporary length to the lashes! Draw more attention to your eyes daily or just for special nights out. Here I’ll share how to apply mascara, sanitation info about mascara, colored mascaras and tips for eyelash curlers.
3 easy tips on how to properly apply mascara:
1.) Wiggle the wand left to right at the base of the inner and outer lashes. It is when the mascara is placed near the roots (not the tips) that gives the illusion of length.
2.) Pull the wand up and through lashes, wiggling as you go. The wiggling part is key because it separates lashes and also helps to avoid clumps.
3.) Repeat step 2 on the outer lashes. By going over the outer lashes a second time will help to give the illusion that the outer lashes are longer and this will also help to open up the eyes.
** Keep in mind that you never want to pump your mascara wand into the tube, this will
allow air to get inside the tube and cause the product to dry out quicker. It will also
allow bacteria to get inside. When you open the lid, gently pull the wand out about half
way and softly twirl the wand. **
Eye Lash Curlers:
Do not be afraid of eye lash curlers. Curling the lashes will help to give the appearance that the eyes are wider. I recommend to curl your eyelashes before you apply mascara. If you apply it afterwards, you could be dealing with breakage!
Hot tip: Warm up your curler with the air from your blow dryer for a few seconds before you curl your lashes. The heat will help to make the curl stronger and last longer. Make sure to feel your curler first to make sure it’s not too hot.
Have some fun with color and add some to your eyelashes. Black looks good on everyone, but brown is a good alternative to someone who wishes to have a softer look. You can even wear brown during the day and switch to black for a night time look. Purple shades look great on brown, hazel and green eyes. Blue and turquoise shades help to enhance blue eyes and makes them pop.
How long does mascara last?
Mascara is one beauty product that you want to change often because it does easily get contaminated with bacteria. Preservatives in mascara will only last for so long. I recommend to never keep mascara any longer than 3 months. Some mascaras come scented so you know to throw it away once the smell goes away. Once you notice that the product seems to be thicker in texture you want to throw it away.
